TCAC Electric Building, Central Station

Project Overview

As part of the Sydney Metro upgrade, RJC Group delivered heritage stonemasonry works for the TCAC Electric Building beneath the Northern Concourse at Central Station. The project involved the precise fabrication and installation of sandstone elements within a significant heritage structure connected to one of Sydney’s busiest transport hubs.

Supply and installation of 515 precision-cut sandstone pieces
Development of 3D-modelled shop drawings and engineered structural fixing systems
Offsite fabrication of sandstone using wire saw and CNC water-jet technology
Installation of sandstone pieces onsite using stainless-steel mechanical and epoxy anchoring
Use of lifting rigs for safe handling of stones ranging from 45 to 400 kilograms

Sandstone elements were fabricated offsite using CNC water-jet technology to achieve the precision required for exact heritage matching. Installation was then coordinated carefully within the station environment using engineered fixing systems and lifting rigs to support safe handling and efficient delivery.

All works were carried out in line with heritage requirements while integrating with modern structural systems and the broader infrastructure works, ensuring the project met both conservation and construction expectations.
