Project Overview

RJC Group delivered heritage restoration works at the Queen Victoria Building, one of Sydney's most celebrated civic landmarks. The project focused on the reconstruction of the main dome balustrade and detailed conservation works to the building’s iconic internal feature clocks.

Removal of the existing main dome balustrade and associated fixings
Reconstruction of a lightweight replacement balustrade with copper capping
Installation of enhanced waterproofing along the dome perimeter corridor
Lowering of QVB internal feature clocks for detailed inspection and conservation works
Coordination of all works within a live retail and tourism environment

Delivering complex restoration and reconstruction works within one of Sydney's busiest retail and tourism destinations
Maintaining safe public access and uninterrupted retail operations throughout all stages of the project
Access constraints within the dome structure requiring specialised rigging and methodology
Balancing heritage accuracy with improved structural performance in the reconstructed balustrade

Works were staged and sequenced to align with building operations, with all activities coordinated alongside Vicinity Centres, facility management and project stakeholders. Access, safety controls and work zones were managed carefully to support continuous public use throughout delivery.

All restoration and reconstruction works were carried out in line with heritage requirements, with the rebuilt balustrade and conservation works designed to preserve the building’s character while improving durability and performance.
